From the box to a live glance in about five minutes. Power it on, put it on your WiFi, point it at the machines your agents run on, and pair by QR. No terminal on the device, no config files.
Every device ordered from clawmetry.com arrives pre-flashed. Take it out of the box, and start at step 1 below. You will never need a computer or a cable for firmware; updates arrive over the air.

The device is designed to stay powered. There is no battery and no power button, because a status display that goes to sleep is a status display you stop trusting.
On first boot the device opens its own setup hotspot so you can hand it your network details without typing on a 4 inch screen.
http://192.168.4.1 in a browser.One hardware limit worth knowing up front: the ESP32-S3 radio is 2.4 GHz only. If your router publishes 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under the same name, the device will usually still find the 2.4 GHz band. If it does not, join it to a 2.4 GHz-only network name.
Once it joins your network, the device generates a fresh encryption key on the device itself. That key never touches our servers in readable form, which is what lets your agents' activity decrypt on the glass and nowhere else.
This is the step people skip, and it is the one that decides whether the glance has anything to show. The device is a window, not a sensor. What it displays is reported by ClawMetry running on the machine your agents run on: your laptop, your dev box, your server.
On each machine that runs agents:

That opens the dashboard on localhost:8900 and walks you through signing in. Sign in
with the account you intend to pair the device to, and turn cloud sync on, because the device reaches
your data through your ClawMetry account.
Use one account for everything. The single most common setup failure is pairing
the device to one account while your laptop syncs to another. The device then shows a real, correct,
completely empty glance. Run clawmetry status on your machine to see which account and
node it is reporting as, and pair the device to that same account in step 4.
The device now shows a QR code with a short code under it. Scan the QR with your phone, or type the code at clawmetry.com/activate, and approve it as a trusted device.
That is setup done. Within a few seconds the screen settles into its resting state and starts telling you the truth: what you have spent today across every agent, who is working right now, what is stuck, and who is waiting on your approval.
You do not open it. You glance at it, and go back to what you were doing.
Give it 30 seconds from power-on before you look. If it still is not there, the device may already hold WiFi details from an earlier attempt, in which case it is trying to join that network instead of opening the hotspot. Power cycle it fully (unplug, wait five seconds, plug back in) and watch the screen: it tells you which state it is in. If it says it is connecting to a network you do not recognise, use Settings on the device to clear its WiFi and start over.
That message means the device is online and talking to your account, but your account is not
reporting anything. Almost always the machine running your agents is not running ClawMetry, or it is
running it signed out of cloud sync. Run clawmetry status on that machine: it prints the
account and the node it is reporting as. If the account is not the one you paired to, that is the
problem, and step 3 above is the fix.
Zero is a real answer if your agents have not run today. Start an agent and watch: activity should appear within a few seconds. If it stays at zero while an agent is clearly working, check that the runtime you are using is covered on your plan. The device takes its list of machines when you pair, and prefers the ones that have reported recently. A machine that was offline at pairing time, or that has been quiet for a few days, may not be on the list. Bring it online, let it report once, then re-pair the device from its Settings screen and it will be picked up.
Codes are short-lived on purpose. The device rotates to a fresh one on its own; just read the new code off the screen and enter that. If the screen is stuck on an old code, power cycle the device.
Both live on the device itself. Open Settings on the screen: from there you can clear the WiFi details and rejoin the setup hotspot for a new network, or clear the pairing and link the device to a different ClawMetry account. Revoking the device from your account in the web app has the same effect from the other side.
No. Firmware updates arrive over the air: the device checks for a new release at boot and once a day after that, installs it, and rolls itself back automatically if an update fails to boot. The USB-C cable is for power only from here on.
